Member Information & Responsibilities

Ready to join the fun? Becoming a member of Humpty Dumpty Toy Library is easy and comes with a few simple responsibilities.

Your Commitment:

Importantly, as the library is run primarily by volunteers, as a condition of a Standard Membership, members must commit to the following compulsory activities.

  • Volunteer Sessions – Each member must complete two volunteer sessions at the toy library during their annual membership. The tasks include counting toys which have been returned, labeling toys and other simple tasks. The volunteer sessions can be completed on a Monday, Thursday or Saturday. Members can self-select their shifts using their toy library online SETLS account or by putting their name down on the calendar at the library.

  • AGM – The Annual General Meeting is typically held on a Saturday in September and runs for about half an hour. The AGM is a legal requirement of the toy library.

Children are welcome to attend volunteer shifts and the AGM. If a Standard Membership is not for you, you can opt-out of these requirements with an Opt-Out Membership.

Borrowing Toys:

  • All borrowing is for up to four weeks with the option to renew for a further two weeks online through your SETLS account, provided the toys have not been reserved by another member.

  • It is the responsibility of the member to ensure that the number of pieces are correct when taken from the library. We recommend members count toys they are borrowing before they leave the library to confirm all the pieces are there.

  • Batteries are not supplied with toys.

Returning Toys:

  • Toys must be returned no later than 15 minutes before the toy library closes.  This is to ensure there is time for toys to be counted before the library closes.

  • It is the responsibility of each member to ensure toys are thoroughly cleaned and dry before returning them to the library (see Humpty’s Cleaning Guide). This is essential for health and safety reasons.

  • All boxes and bags must be returned with the relevant toy.

  • Batteries must be removed before returning the toy.

  • All electronic data (photos etc..) must be deleted from our electronic toys before they are returned.

  • If a toy is damaged, members need to report the damage to the library.  A certain level of wear and tear is expected but if significant damage is attributed to a member then they may be asked to pay for the replacement or repair of the item.

  • There is a $2 fine for missing toy or puzzle pieces payable on the day the toy is returned which is fully refundable upon return of the missing piece. If a lost piece is not found within 3 months and means that the toy is no longer able to be loaned to other families, the member may be required to pay to replace the toy.

Before you join, please also take a moment to review our important documents:

By becoming a member, you agree to abide by these guidelines and contribute to the sustainability of our library.
